Top Ten Local Ice Cream Shops

Can you all feel that? That, my friend, would be the heat of summer that we are all experiencing.
That means jumping into pools, going to lake, and definitely treating ourselves with delicious,
refreshing ICE CREAM! Ice cream is one of those desserts that has no age restriction. Whether
you are age 5 or 75, you probably still get as excited as we do to get this special dessert. We
love it so much that we’ve partnered with Ohio. Find It Here to bring you our top local ice cream
shops! That’s of course excluding the nostalgic ice cream truck. :) Get your taste buds ready
and let’s dive innnnnn!

Dojo
There is so much I can appreciate about shops that hand craft their ice cream daily. Dojo is one
of them. They specialize in Italian-style gelato and coffee. Everything is just so fresh and
incredibly unique. They have the traditional flavors if that’s your thing or fun ones, such as
peach pie, for all of you adventurous ones out there. Due to their success, they now have two
locations, one in Northside and the other at Findlay Market. There’s never been a time that I’ve
gone and not seen a line. Now that’s a good sign (I did not mean to rhyme there hehehe). But
that shows that it’s not just us- the community also loves them!
They have a fun sign that says, “Sorry We’re Open” and I totally get it because once you go,
you’re going to want to keep coming back!
Suggested flavor To Try: Ooey Butter Cake

Putz
Where are there soft serve ice cream lovers at? If that’s you, head on over to the West Side of
town and visit Putz. One of the cutest things about them is how much they believe in family.
Since 1938, they have passed down the company through their family line. I <3 that! When you
arrive, it will feel like an old neighborhood store with their super cute picnic tables around. They
truly have something for everyone here. If you want soft serve, which is what they’re known for,
go for it! If you want a banana split, which I opted for this most recent time, do that! If you want a
turtle sundae, they have one with your name on it. They are pretty perfect for a hot day and
great to bring the full family to as well.

One disclosure: They accept cash only! Don’t be that person to get there and not have any on
you. That will be a sad day. BUT there is a gas station with an ATM machine if that does
happen to be you. Just know you won’t want to miss it!
Suggested Flavor To Try: Banana Split with Vanilla Soft Serve Base

The Cone
Now this one brings back so many memories for my family and I. We lived down the street from
it for 15+ years and visited on a very regular basis- probably too much, but who’s counting?!
They are another soft serve location that has plenty of fun options to choose from. When I was
younger, there was no need to ask me what I wanted to order. I ALWAYS went with the Oreo

wizard. Too Good!! Now, my choice is a strawberry & vanilla soft serve twist in a cone, with lots
and lots of sprinkles added (can you all tell yet that sprinkles are one of my weaknesses?)They
also have ice cream cakes that are pretty freaking good for birthdays (or if you just want a cake
just because…). You can also utilize some of their indoor rooms to have a small celebration!
Celebrations with ice cream and your favorite people sounds like a win to me! What’s also cool
about The Cone is they have a drive thru! No need to get out of the car to get your favorite
items! Although I live pretty far from them, I will absolutely make the drive to experience a bit of my childhood here!
Suggested Flavors to Try: Oreo Wizzard or Vanilla/Strawberry Twist Cone

Hello Honey
O.M.G. This one is one of Tiff D.’s absolute favs. Although we didn’t discover it until a couple of
years back, they have been around for yearsssss. They are located downtown on Vine Street,
but closer to the business district (right before 7 th street). This place is absolutely incredible!
They are a small batch ice cream shop that makes their flavors in house too! They get our vote
for most creative combos and best overall taste. I typically try to pick options that don’t normally
go together to make it super fun.
Outside of the flavors, we love that they make their waffle cones fresh to order. They’re not hot
enough to melt the ice cream though. They are just right. We also enjoy their toppings- like the
toasted marshmallow. They just have items that you won’t really see anywhere else.
And guess what? They are opening a second location in Walnut Hills later this year. Love to see
that growth for our local businesses! They have never disappointed any time either of us have
been. So when the new one opens, we’ll be one of the first in line!
Suggested Flavors to Try: Blueberry Cheesecake or Honey Lavender

Bold Face Dairy
Bold Face Dairy is one of the newer ice cream shops on the block (opened in 2018), but you
would you never know because they have perfected their taste! Now let me ask you…. Have
you ever held a soft serve ice cream cone upside down for an extended period without it
dripping and melting? This is the place where you can do so! Their soft serve is nice and
creamy but is also thick!
This is another place that is great for yourself and your family because they have flavors others
don’t have such as chai tea, cardamom, and bourbon barrel stout. Have you ever seen flavors
like that?! It’s not just creative names though. The awesome part is they are equally delicious as
they are exciting. When there’s so many flavors like this, that just means you have to keep
going back until you’ve tried them all!
Suggested Item: Be BOLD like their name and get the Bold Face Cone

Parlor
I knowwww we must have cookie dough lovers out there!!! We are certainly in that category as
well. Parlor has been opened in the Madeira area for quite some time, but they opened a
second location in Pendleton just a few years back. And that’s when my taste buds were forever
changed. They are very well known for their edible cookie dough. But what is great is they offer
the option for you to pair it with one of their freshly made ice cream flavors. My go to is usually
the cookies n’ cream ice cream as the base with a scoop of cookie dough on top. My
Goodness!! I don’t think I’d ever had anything like it but once I did, it was heaven in a cup yall!
Something else they have that I very much enjoy is blueberry ice cream. If you grew up in the
Ohio area and were anything like me, you may have gone to King’s Island just for the “smurf”
ice cream. No need to go that far anymore. They have it right here in their shop. And you know
what I topped it with…Yep. That’s right… Sprinkles!
Suggested Flavor to Try: Cookies n’ Cream

Graeter’s
Ok now. You all know we HAD to add in the Cincinnati STAPLE. Although you’ll see them in
many locations throughout Ohio and the surrounding states, they originated in Cincinnati and
have been going strong for the longest! They are actually celebrating their 150 th anniversary this
year!!! If we completed a poll for “fan favorite”, Greater’s would certainly win. What’s really cool
they have certain flavors that are present all year, but they do a great job of keeping fans
guessing with surprise flavors each month. And if you’re looking for something lighter, try their
sorbets. The lemon is perfectly refreshing in the summer. In addition to their, handcrafted flavors
of ice cream to choose from; they also have delicious cakes, cookies, & pies.
You will never, ever go wrong with choosing Greater’s. We can pretty much guarantee you and
whoever you are with will leave with a sugary smile on your face
Suggested Flavor to Try: Current special- strawberry sorbet

Aglamesis Brothers’
Our last feature in this post may have hit 150 years, but this one isn’t far behind. This year
Aglamesis Brothers’ hit 113 years. That is a longgg time of serving the city with tasty treats!
They actually may have the most unique story. One of the founding members is from Greece
and came to Cincinnati to build a life for himself. After his brother joined him here, they
eventually took a turn at starting their first ice cream parlor and the rest is history (thank
goodness for us!) I just love a story that has this type of background in it. They have kept the old
school vibe and charm inside of the locations which makes you really feel like you’re in a parlor.
Their attire even matches it!
Now…the ice cream- sooooo good! But it’s not just your traditional ice cream. It’s Italian ice as
well. Every time I visit, I try to get something different- even though I have my favorites (like
double chocolate chip). They’re just all too good to not try them all. And for a company that has

been this successful for this long, you KNOW they’re good (just google them and you’ll see that
they have a nationwide reputation as well!)
Suggested Flavor To Try: Banana Chocolate Chip

Jeni’s
Ok this one is not local, but it’s too good to pass up. If you’re up for a drive to Columbus you
have to try Jeni’s. I’m not sure when I first tried them, but when I did, my life changed LOL In
addition to having fun flavors, like some of the others, they are well known for how smooth and
creamy their ice cream is. It is a struggle for me to NOT stop at one of their locations when I’m
in the area. There must be something in it that’s keeping me addicted.
If you have no other reason to drive to Columbus and want to go just to check this place out, we
won’t judge. Hehehe It will be worth it! You may have also noticed them in your local grocery
store. Yep, they sell their flavors by the pint and in case you’re wondering, they are just as
delicious that way too!
Suggested flavors: Lemon and Blueberry Parfait

Now I know you must now have googly eyes and may have dreams about these places in your
sleep tonight (Sorry, not Sorry! �� ). We have an easy way to solve for that. Hop in the car
immediately and pick one of these incredible places! No matter which one you choose, it will
likely become your new favorite! It happens to us every single time!

BTS with Esoteric- Cincy’s First Black & Asian Owned Brewery

Are you looking for something different in the city? Or perhaps looking for a place to listen to live music (yes, safely during covid)? Or maybe looking for a location for weeknight trivia? We have just the spot for you! And it’s minority owned too! Introducing ESOTERIC! For anyone who hasn’t heard the name, it is the first Black owned and Asian owned brewery in Cincinnati. But it isn’t your typical brewery that feels like you’re in a well made over warehouse. You get much more of a lounge experience here.

Let’s talk about their name and space first:

The name means “it’s understood by a select few”. And in this case, that means craft beer. Less than 15% of the industry craft their beer. The thought is still growing (and somewhat fast right now!) But once you know craft beer, you love it. In the space, you’ll notice many locust flowers throughout. This is their metaphor for fighting through adversity. It represents a rising out of the Phoenix (ashes) and helping make Walnut Hills a thriving neighborhood again. What’s super cool is they employ a lot of people from the neighborhood and people of color to broaden equality.

You will also see lots of art all around you. The decor is an ode to Art Deco and the design of the precious city. All of the characters are all from  period pieces from the 40s and 50s. The brand is to bring back the golden age. And guess who made all of the art? One of the owner’s (Brian) uncles!

Speaking of the owners…

When we did our behind the scenes, we met  with one of the owners, Marvin Abrinica, CFO and CMO. Marvin co-owns the brewery with Brian Jackson, CEO Head brewer and developer  and Patrick klesmith, COO.

It seems like their partnership was truly meant to be. Brian was working at Chipotle, but had a passion for beer. While working at Mad Tree, he started exploring the brewing process at home. This eventually led to him being in the first class of Mortar, which is a well known entrepreneurship hub in Cincinnati that focuses on diverse dreamers. Marvin happened to be a mentor with Mortar, which is how they met. After many chats, with Patrick included, they decided to pursue the business and raise the capital. 4 years later, in August of 2020, Esoteric was opened to the public!

Now 2020= Covid. But these business owners still managed to launch and sustain successfully. They are operating at 50% capacity which has of course been a challenge and forced them to pivot. To help with their sustainability, they also focus on digital sales, purchasing online, and pulled forward their canning distribution line which launches next month.

What I really love about them is they have a social mission as a company. Out of the 8k breweries across the nation, only 250 are owned from people of color. And out of over 8k. And less than 50 are black owned. I love that this statistic did not stop them from going after their dreams and also talking about this important fact! 

Now what about food and entertainment?


For all of you Taste of Belgium lovers out there, there’s a food truck right in the back! And if that’s not your thing, you can pick up or have food delivered from any of the surrounding restaurants- like Gomez Salsa. Yum!

For entertainment, they have live music on Fridays and Saturdays. A few ladies and I came back for this and it was awesome!! It was also very safely done with lots of space between us and the performer.  They also do an 80s/90s open mic night on Wednesdays with various artists and trivia on Thursday.

Kudos to Esoteric for bringing such an experience to Cincinnati. I will be supporting and spreading the word about them as much as possible. I really could go on and on about how great this place is, but I think YOU should check it out. We’d love to hear if you enjoyed your experience as much as we did. Leave us a note when you do!

Holidays in Cincinnati

Can you all believe that December is already here? We are now wearing our sweaters, drinking hot cocoa, burning our favorite holiday candles, and gearing up for Christmas! My the time has flown by this year, or some may be saying “Heck yeah, goodbye 2020 and HEEELLOOO 2021”. LOL! 2020 has been one heck of a roller coaster but we are not letting that stop our holiday cheer! We are back with our final partnership of the year with Ohio. Find It Here. to bring you some fun activities to do during the holidays with family, friends or your significant other in the comfort of your home or own personal family space. Around the holidays everyone likes to do holiday gift guides. This is similar. Think of this as our quarantine holiday activity guide ;p . What makes this one so fun and special is we decided to end our partnership, guiding you through our very own hometown, the Queen City herself, CCCCINNCINNAATTII! Ohhhh yeahhh, all of the activities we share can be done safely social distancing, so grab your coats, grab a few of your friends and/or family, grab your mask and let’s get active in the Queen City!

Shop Till You Drop – At Home!

While this is the time of year to get out and holiday shop, this year is a little different. Did you know that you and your friends can still make holiday shopping fun, easy and convenient? Yep, you sure can! Online shopping has become the new day and age shopping and is super convenient with what is going on now in the world. Shopping online provides so much ease and less chaos in the comfort of your own home. Tiff Squared loves to shop and is enjoying being able to do so in a safe and comfortable environment. I could online shop for hours! The good thing about online shopping is there is something quick and easy for everyone just a click away. If you know anything about Tiff Squared or watch our stories (if you do not, you should 😊), we love candles! We are always trying to find the best candle companies around, plus there is nothing like the holidays with family and nicely scented candles burning! With my love for candles and online shopping, I had the opportunity to support a local female-black owned candle company called Yellow Dahlia Candle Co. What I love about Yellow Dahlia is that their candles are nice and softly scented but still permeant. I also love her clean and simple white candle packaging. Their candles are also affirmation candles. Their vision is all about embracing your truth and self-healing. If you love candles as much as we do, go check out Yellow Dahlia.

While we do love candles, there are tons of other stores like clothing that provide online shopping. Check out clothing vendors such as Vici Dolls, Nordstrom, Good Night Macaroon, Pink Lily Boutique, and so much more. A lot of online vendors are having sales so check them out as well.

TIP: Another fun way to online shop is to FaceTime a friend or two and online shop while chatting with friends. You can still get your friend’s opinions as well as show them on the spot your fun finds! Why shop online alone when you have friends one facetime call away?! : p

Let the Light Guide You

With the pandemic still on our doorstep, many are feeling the effects of the holiday times being different. However, let the lights guide you! Every year, Ohio. Find. It Here celebrates Holidays in Ohio with a campaign to support the Ohio Holiday Lights Trail. They encourage Ohio’s 88 counties to go all out on Holiday themed decorations. From fancy lights to full on displays, this still allows everyone to celebrate and get into the holiday spirit. This year Ohio. Find It Here. is promoting their Holiday Lights Trail as a drivable tour. While the physical light trails are fun, this year is all about lights in the comfort of your own car. One of the drivable light trails that I attended was Light Up Middletown. This light trail is held at Smith Park. The park was lit up with all the holiday colorful, festive, and fun lights you could imagine. This is the perfect activity for families. I went with my husband and two small daughters. It was the best 2-in-1 combination. You get a good, socially distanced, family experience as well as see all the lights. My 4-year-old loved being able to see the lights and point out the different objects such as Santa, reindeers, whales, candy canes, and more. We also made it even more fun and played Christmas music and recorded little family videos of everyone singing for our great memories. They do have a channel that you can tune into as well for Christmas music. Our favorite part was seeing the light display of Santa’s workshop. It felt like everything we ever read about in Christmas books came to life for 10 seconds in a cool light display. The light display was huge and colorful and looked like a real-life Santa’s Workshop. Light Middletown was a good experience. It was about a 1-2.5-mile-long drive through light display that showcased tons of holiday lights. It is a fun and quick experience. It takes approximately 20 min. from start to finish. We genuinely enjoyed the drivable lights trail and will add this to our family holiday traditions!

Now Let’s Eat Holiday Meals From Home!

Now we are Tiff Squared, the foodies with the mostest. LOL! You know we cannot just give you activities without any food suggestions. While the activities and experiences are fun, you will be sure to work up quite the appetite. If you’re like us, you’ve also enjoyed experiencing restaurant’s special holiday menus and temporary offerings. I also love the decorations that each place uniquely comes out with. This year clearly has changed the dining scene, and many are wishing to eat at home instead. What’s great is, you can still support them and experience their delicious offerings at the comforts of your own home! Almost everyone has either their full menu or something special, but we decided to focus on two specific ones:

Goose and Elder

Goose and Elder’s full menu is incredible, but what you might not know is they also have some of the best fried chicken in the city! They began offering it as a special on Sundays, but thankfully, they have “The Flock” which can be ordered at any time! It includes:

10 pieces of all-natural fried chicken

1-quart mac n cheese

Their “big” salad

2 orders of crème brulee

Outside of it being simply delicious, I love this as a holiday to-go option because my family usually has fried chicken for either Christmas or New Years. The nostalgia warms my heart. If you don’t have enough people in your household to finish it all, split it up and do a safe drop off at other family member’s homes! They will love it! No cooking for you all! Just eating good!

Pastabilities with Crown Republic

If you are busy, but love to cook, Crown Republic’s pasta kits are the perfect option for you. They provide you with all the necessities while taking the hard work out of it. I chose the truffle cream pasta, although they have others to pick from. Included in my bag were:

Their house made pasta

House made sauce

Truffle oil

Parmesan cheese

Instructions

The instructions were so easy to follow. I had a full meal within 20 minutes or less. I added chicken and mushrooms to mine and garnished with their suggestions of red pepper flakes, basil, and parmesan cheese. So easy and so tasty! They serve 4-6 people and are just as tasty as having them in person!

If you’re feeling like dessert and a cocktail to make for the full experience, try one of their weekly holiday drink specials (featured is the cranberry mule) and their holiday wrapped “Mama’s Cookies”, which reminded me of baking cookies at home with my mom!

Be sure to order one of their holiday meals to go as well! Their offerings look scrumptious!

As they say, all good things must come to an end! While we have enjoyed this partnership and guiding you all through some of Ohio’s best cities, it is now time for you to get out and explore all that Ohio has to offer in a safe manner. Online shop, drive through a light trail, and order take-out from local restaurants, but whatever you do stay safe, wear a mask, and have fun!

Supporting Women Owned Businesses in Ohio

Hey Everyone! If you have been keeping up with the blog, you know we partnered with Ohio.findithere
in June and July, which was A-MAZING! Well, guess what? We still aren’t done! We’re back for another
month and have a treat for you! Since August included National Women’s Day (August 9th ) and Women’s
Equality Day (August 26th ), it was more than appropriate for us to spend the month dedicating our time to Women Owned
Businesses in the city! We’ve selected 10 incredible women and couldn’t be more excited to highlight
them and all they have done! There may or may not be a bonus at the end as well ;)

Let’s jump right in!

1. The Rhined/Oakley Wines

Calling all cheese lovers!

A few years ago, a cheese and wine shop was just what the city needed! Thankfully, The Rhined
was opened by Stephanie Webster in 2017 and they’ve gone nowhere but up since then.
Stephanie did not have a background in cheese and wine, but she knew she loved it. She then
studied it extensively and has brought only the best to her OTR shop for our pleasures. Similar to
most of their guests, we have been many times and certainly won’t be stopping any time soon.
They developed a variety of offerings that we’ve experienced such as wine and cheese
pairings, raclette night (a MUST!), and/or simply to pick up great cheese and wine to enjoy at
home. They have been so successful that they acquired Oakley Wines, which now holds most of
the events. Talk about a success story! They have some of the best cheese boards in the city and
also developed mini boxes to go to treat yourself during quarantine. One thing I’m looking
forward to them bringing back (hopefully!) is the sandwich feature each week using local
ingredients and of course cheese sold in the shop. I used to wait in anticipation every week for it
and am so ready to have that feeling again! When/if they bring back this feature, be
ready….they sell out fast! Stephanie is the perfect example of not letting your experience stop
you from going after your dreams. She learned and executed!

2.Homemakers

What happens when you bring two fierce women together? Duhhhh. An awesome business is started!
Julie Petiprin and Catherin Manabat (who are the sweetest!) opened Homemaker’s Bar mid-2019.
We had the pleasure of attending their sneak peek back then and have loved it ever since. It is a craft
cocktail bar with a retro vibe. I say bar, but it can be used for much more, including private events. Prior
to Covid, they held many events (of which we also attended) including mixology classes, events at
Washington Park, pairing with popular food vendors (such at Pataroja Tacos) and much more. The
pandemic halted many businesses, but Homemaker’s found a way to keep their originality while also
reinventing themselves. Introducing… Outpost! Homemaker’s opened the space in the back of their
main location and created Outpost, which is a fun, outdoor, socially distanced, cocktail bar. When the
weather is nice, it’s the best way to enjoy fun in the sun with your favorite Homemaker’s cocktails! Oh,
and, did I mention they have food? I mean, you definitely want something to soak up whatever cocktail
you’re having. The menu changes often, but take it from us- if they have Mac n’ Cheese on the menu,
order it! You won’t be disappointed! There already aren’t many women owned bars in the area, but to
have one that is such a fun experience with the cutest décor and outdoor space is certainly worth celebrating!

3.Nostalgia

And now…the much anticipated… Nostalgia, the newest jazz and wine lounge in OTR (they just
opened a week ago!). When I heard the city was getting a hip jazz and wine lounge, I was

ecstatic! There’s literally not much more that I need on a nice night out. Finding out it was also
woman and black owned was another reason for me to be so excited. The owner, Tammy Scott
has done an excellent job of creating an intimate space that is fitting for all crowds. They have
over 40 wines by the glass or bottle, of which 8 are on tap! What I really love is they are
highlighting women and minority winemakers and producers. I call that “lifting as you climb”
and sharing the love! Remember where we highlighted The Rhined above? Well their
charcuterie boards will be available to pair with your wine as well.

For the music lovers, there will be traditional live jazz performances on Thursdays and Sundays

and jazz and soul live performances on Fridays and Saturdays. I love it!

Now that we’ve covered cheese, wine, cocktails and jazz, let’s transition to FOOD!

4.Yee Mama

Who doesn’t love wontons??? (If you don’t, I’m side-eyeing you right now). Yee Mama is the new pop-
up, operating out of Findlay Kitchen. Fun fact, we’ve followed the owner Chiuyee Cheng’s influencer
page (@eating4three) for years and have always admired the home cooked meals she would add in.
They are beautiful, authentic and look super tasty! So, when she announced that she was launching Yee
Mama, we were READY! Chiuyee is originally from Hong Kong and has thankfully brought the Cantonese
flavors right to Ohio. She offers a variety of wonton kits that are sold by the dozen and come with
everything you’ll need (your choice of sauce, herbs and instructions). Even if you don’t know how to
cook, I promise it is easy to do. I ordered some a few weeks ago and devoured them in what felt like 5
seconds. Lol The flavor was incredible! I could tell she put so much love and thought it each wonton
which, I’m convinced, makes it extra delicious! Her ordering goes live every Sunday at noon. If you think
you can wait until 12:15 or 12:30 and still get some, you’re wrong! It took me a few weeks to order
because they would sell out so quickly. Now, having them, I completely understand why. So set your

alarm and order right at 12!

I love how Chiuyee stayed true to her culture and turned her love for it and for cooking into a business. I
can’t wait to see what else is in story for her considering how successful she’s been after being opened

for just under a month. Congrats to you, lady!

5.Cherbourg Cyprus

I know we have Vegan readers out there right?! Well this one is for you! Geri Peacock opened
Cherbourg Cyprus in OTR a few years back (2017) and is perfect for all of the sweet fanatics out
there who may not be able to eat all things. Not only do they specialize in gluten free treats;
they are also nut free. Personally, this is amazing for me because I found out I had a food
sensitivity to gluten and an allergy to certain nuts. For some, this may be discouraging, but
thankfully, Cherbourg Cyprus’ sweets are just as delicious as any other shop. What most don’t
know is this is their second location. The original one is in Columbus (which I heard many people
would drive to before it came to Cincinnati). What I really love about the owner is she took her

own struggle with Celiac disease and turned it into this beautiful bakery that will allow so many

others to enjoy the things they love. We thank YOU Geri!

Now that you’ve had all of the great food and drinks, let’s focus on pampering yourself and keeping your
skin together!

6.Pure Beauty Skin Bar

Pure Beauty Skin Bar was founded by Sylvia Brownlee. Not only is this business woman-
owned, it is also black-owned! This boss babe specializes in the treatment and prevention of acne, as
well as hyperpigmentation. I’d like to say she has “Magic Hands”. I’ve personally experienced her facials
and they are so relaxing. Now, relaxing is great, but they also need to be effective. Sylvia does an
awesome job of balancing the two. Between the facial and her products, I have to say my skin is
GLOWING! I have also seen her work on others, and she has absolutely transformed their skin. It’s both
exciting and comforting to watch and experience. If you are unsure of what facial to get or what
products to use, she offers consultations to ensure you have the best experience for YOU! Many people
don’t know, but she also does waxing. How perfect is it that you can get your facial and grooming done
in one place. She is also very personable and will make you feel as if you are speaking with a long-time
friend. Remember to stay consistent with this one! Keep your skin in her care!

7.Spruce Nail Shop

I love that Molly Reckman Nagle opened such a cute nail salon downtown! But this isn’t just

your ordinary nail shop. As said on their website:

“Spruce Nail Shop is the natural answer to your neighborhood nail salon. It is our mission to use
the safest alternatives for polishes, products, and practices, while creating one of a kind

manicures and nail art designs for our clients.”

If taking the natural route is important to you, they are the ones to go to. They have rave
reviews from their regulars. If you look at their Instagram and website, you will see such a clean
space filled with lots of color. It makes you feel so in the element, even from afar. They are also
known for their lovely designs that can be added on. Molly has done such a great job with the
space and staying true to her vision and standards. This led her to moving to a larger space at

Findlay Market. No matter where they’re located, we support!!

8.Prism Nail Lounge

Prism Nail LoungeMany people are still nervous about Covid-19 which has caused them to hold off on getting certain pampering services. What I absolutely love about Prism is it is operated solely by the owner, Thy Nghiem. Thy opened Prism early in 2020 with the intention to expand her staff, but Covid halted those plans for her. It actually has worked out great because, as a customer, I do not have to worry about many other people being in the lounge at the same time and she is able to put her sole focus on you!
As for her services, Thy has done an excellent job on both my manicures and pedicures. I have referred many friends there and they have all raves about it as well. I also love the ease of her online booking system. Clarity and efficiency are so important these days! 


Thoroughness, cleanliness and safety…can’t beat that! Thank you, Thy, for opening such a beautiful space and for keeping us all safe! 

Ok….we’ve talked food, drinks, music, and pampering. Now let’s go shopping!

9.The Native One

Y’all ….we are suckers for cute boutiques! And thank goodness for The Native One, opened by Anna
Steffen. They have quite the success story as well. Their first brick and mortar opened in 2018 and has
been a huge success! Shoppers from the suburbs and city can be found sporting their clothes (which also
can be purchased online). They’ve done so well that they opened a second location in Covington, KY last
year and are moving their OTR location into a much larger space across the street. You go girl!
They specialize in rompers, oversized apparel, and many other super cute items. You will also find home
décor, candles, cards, plants, and other crafted items. I love when a store is multi-dimensional with their
products. Every time I go in I have to stop myself from buying everything on the rack. If you see
something, act quick because they don’t care a bulk amount of the same thing. That means you won’t
see everyone walking around with exactly what you have one! Anna, thank you for carrying cute,

creative pieces for women of all sizes!

10.BINO (Be In Not Of)

Last, but not least… Beinnotof. This one is near and dear to my heart because it is faith based. Anyone
who knows me knows how serious I take being a Christ follower. BINO is a Christian based
communicated created by Niyah Simone. Although the community has been around for quite some
time, she recently launched her BINO clothing line. The line is made up of handcrated, sustainable, one-
of-a-kind tees and sweatshirts. It launched on August 8 th and almost sold out of every piece they had. If
you missed the launch, you can visit their website to order one (and only you will have that specific
design). They produce in small batches (quality over quantity), use thrifted materials, and are working
towards keeping the local economy sustainable. I love everything they stand for and absolutely love my

pieces.

There are a lot of people walking around in faith-based shirts and that just makes my heart (and heaven)

smile. Keep walking bolding into all God has called you to Niyah!

For a little background, I am a cookie fiend and always have been. My family appropriately calls me
“Cookie Monster”. So imagine how happy I was to find out the other half of Pursuit of Delights, Tiff B.,

was launching a cookie line!


Let me introduce you to Sweet Mae’s.

Sweet Mae’s is a brand-new cookie line that will officially launch on September 8th . They are homemade
premium stuffed cookies with a southern accent (That comes directly off their label and I love it!) For
anyone that doesn’t know, Tiff B. grew up in the south and developed the flavors from her experience
there. I, Tiff D., have had the honor of being the “OTT- Official Taste Tester” as she perfected and
finalized her flavors and let me tell you…..no joke….they are some of THE BEST cookies I’ve ever had.
They are each stuffed with the most amazing fillings. Everyone who I have purchased or shared some
with have raved about them. My favorites so far are the carrot cake and apple pie, but each one is
amazing. What I love is they have a flavor for everyone’s palette. If you like citrus, she’s got you. If you
like chocolate, she has that too. I am so proud of my blog partner, little sister, and friend for taking the

time to get it RIGHT. I believe in you and know this will be a huge hit!

Vinoklet Winery

Summer is here, and what better way to spend summer afternoons or nights than at a winery drinking local wine?! Wine made right at the winery! Not to mention, June is also Ohio Wine Month. This is certainly a win, win! If you haven’t began celebrating, you can start now! It’s never too early or late for a good glass of wine. Pursuit of Delights has partnered with Ohio Wines for the second year in a row, to visit one of their official wineries. This means that the wine is made in Ohio as well as the grapes are grown in Ohio. This year Tiff Squared decided to visit Vinoklet Winery located in Hamilton County. We welcomed our summer with the perfect pours of crisp white and red wines, made from fresh grapes grown right on their property, on the perfect breezy afternoon. The flowers were blossomed and vibrant in color and the waterfalls were rolling. HEEELLLOOOO SUMMMMEEERRR!!

Vinoklet Winery is the only working winery in Hamilton County Ohio. It is located in Colerain Township in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is home to 12 award-winning wines and is proud to represent the Greater Cincinnati area in local and regional wine competitions. Vinoklet Winery has been established since 1986. It all started when the founder, Kreso Mikulic, planted its first vines. In its 34 years of business, it has expanded to now over 12,000 vines across 30+ acres of rolling hills and ponds. At 86 years old, Mr. Mukulic still gets up and works at the winery every day.

What Tiff Squared found interesting is they plant their own vines, harvest their own grapes by hand in 5-gallon buckets, hall them down to the winery, and produces wine. Ohhh, did we mention the size is quite huge. You enter through the restaurant and the vineyards and winery are out back. It is gorgeous. It also over looks a huge pond. Its location and scenery is perfect for weddings or other celebratory events. They have a nice selection of dry and sweet wines to choose from. If you are unsure of what to get, we recommend starting with a tasting. That is what we did. The tasting we did consisted of 12 different wines, white and red, starting with dry and progressing to sweet. We always have fun at tastings because Tiff D. likes more of a dry wine whereas Tiff B. likes sweeter wines. We always share a good laugh as the tasting starts and finishes. You will receive an entire flight of award-winning wines consisting of 12, 1 -oz cups & a souvenir glass for $12.15 plus tax. Don’t let the 1-oz fool you. Lol! Tiff D.’s favorite was the Tears of Joy, a dry wine made similar to a Chardonnay. Crisp and full of flavor, yet soft to the palate. Tiff B.’s favorite was the Strawberry wine, a sweet wine popping with the taste and aroma of fresh strawberries.

Now we can’t come to a winery and not talk about the food! Let’s take a moment to explore their food options. This winery totally gave me country club vibes with a beautiful view. Their food is American and has a variety of appetizers, soups, salads, entrees, and desserts. They even offer what they call Grilled to Perfection offered only on Fridays & Saturdays. Grill to Perfection is where guests can come in and select certain menu items and grill their food themselves with a Grill Master; all while enjoying the ambiance of the unique dining room and vineyard while staff caters to their needs. How cool is that?! They also offer different dinner specials on different days of the week. We began with a cheese and charcuterie board. This is always a good choice paired with wine. You can’t go wrong with this. For entrees, we did the Baby Back Ribs (Thursday special) and the Grilled Norwegian Salmon. They were served with Green Beans, Mashed Potatoes, and a Dinner Roll. Both meals were really good and cooked perfect.

This was a super cute winery and we were happy to visit! We were pleasantly pleased with their different wines and how beautiful their property is. Although there is only one weekend left in June, we hope that you will visit one of the 300 wineries to celebrate Ohio Wine month. We highly recommend Vinoklet Winery for its charm, great wines, and beautiful views. It could certainly make the perfect date night or night out with the girls. Cincinnati’s Bread King – Sixteen Bricks

Cincinnati is known as the Queen City, and every queen needs her king!

What do you do when you are well into adulthood, have a six-figure job, hate your six-figure job, but your family needs your help to run their bread bakery? For some this could be a hard truth to deal with. Well for, Ryan Morgan, owner of Sixteen Bricks bakery, that question was a no brainer. You put your big boy pants on, quit your six-figure job, step out on faith and go help your family. We truly enjoyed ourselves behind the scenes with Sixteen Bricks. Ryan’s hard work, determination, drive, and hustle is what landed him to successfully continue to run his family’s bakery for 8 years now.

After living in Cincinnati for 2.5 years, seeing Sixteen Bricks on plenty of menus, tasting some of their bread at different locations, and seeing Ryan doing different collaborations; I thought hmmm this would be an awesome behind the scenes. Mannnnn, was I right! Ryan is such a dope soul! Him and his crew are some amazing people. Tiff Squared had the chance to make bread with the Sixteen Bricks crew for a day. Yes, a day to learn about all things bread (i.e. types of flours, shape, bread types, baking temperatures and times, etc.).

 

 

 

Let’s take a walk down memory lane to see how Sixteen Bricks was formed:

If you have had Sixteen Bricks bread, you know it is the bomb. com. It is what we like to hashtag #iyktyk (if you know, then you know). Lol! However, would you believe that Ryan use to be a medical equipment mechanic before he was what I like to call, Cincinnati’s Bread King? You would think by the taste of his amazing bread, he has been in the business for 10+ years. Nope, he has only been in the bread making business for 8 years. WOWZERS, is what we said! Don’t feel bad, we were shocked as well. The bakery first started with Ryan’s mother and father. Their concept was a little sit-down restaurant with food made from the heart. They grew their own veggies that they cooked and served to guests. The menu was seasonal so they could provide the best dishes with the freshest ingredients. Although his mom owned the restaurant, she bought her bread from another company. Her and this owner became great friends over the years. Suddenly, the bread company owner became ill, so Ryan’s mother bought his bread bakery. After years of running the bakery, it was time to pass down the reins. Ryan’s mother was also growing in age, and it was now time to retire and pass the bread bakery along. This is where Ryan had to step out on faith. He decided to quit his six-figure job as a mechanic and take over his mother’s bakery. Oh, not to mention he did not know a thing about bread. Like most men, he was not going to let his mother down. He learned what he needed to know and hired the help he needed. As many know, the food industry can be brutal. However, Ryan beat the odds, grinded through the storm and became what we know today, Sixteen Bricks Artisan Bakehouse a.k.a Cincinnati’s Bread King. A total bad *shut your mouth* 😊

Fast forward to November 2019:

Sixteen Bricks is booming and doing better than ever. Sixteen Bricks has its own bread factory where they produce thousands of lbs of bread a year. They produce bread for multiple restaurants and a few store locations (i.e Kroger).

Tiff Squared’s Bread Making Experience

Out of all the bread Sixteen Bricks can make, by now I am sure you are wondering what type Tiff Squared made. Wonder no more, Tiff Squared loves Focaccia Bread, so that is what we asked Ryan to teach us. Making Focaccia Bread is fun and easy.

First, you make the dough and let it sit for about 1-2 hours to rise.

Second, you get your baking dish. We used what looked to be 6-in cake pans. We then oiled each pan with olive oil. You must get the right amount of oil on the bottom and not add to much. Adding too much oil can fry your bread on the bottom. We then weighed out about 8-9 oz. of dough to fill each pan.

Third, we let the dough set for another 1-2 hours to rise again.

During this time, Ryan took us on a bakery tour. We went to all the different bread making stations (in no particular order) and learned the process on how to make bread. We got to see how the bread was loaded onto the conveyer belt to go into the oven. We watched a batch be loaded and off into the oven it went. Some of the bread had to be scored before it went into the oven. I, Tiff B., had the opportunity to score a few pieces. After the oven section, Ryan showed us what the finished product looks like. We then went into the walk-in refrigerator and learned about the different types of flour. After, we were able to go watch a batch of bread dough being made in the mixer. We even watched a bread machine pre-cut bread dough to make hoagies.

Now it was time to go back and check on our rising dough. We came back and it looked good.

Fourth, it was time for toppings! Oh yeah! We kept it simple and did salt, black pepper, and rosemary. MMM MMM MMM! Just the smell of all of the seasonings had us very excited about the finished product. Tiff D. topped the bread dough with the selected seasonings.

Fifth, now it was time for the bread to go into the oven. Our bread baked for about 30-40 min.

Sixth, take the bread out the oven and let it cool. Then enjoy! The taste of simple ingredients like salt, black pepper, and dried rosemary add great flavor. The three ingredients were robust in flavor yet worked well together on the palate. The notes of rosemary add an earthy taste while the pepper added that light kick of spice. The salt was the cherry on top adding that tangy element that we all know goes so well with bread. The texture of the Focaccia Bread was light and airy. It had the perfect chew as well.

While we waited for the bread to bake and cool, we spent the last 30-40 min in the pastry section talking to Sixteen Brick’s pastry chef, Bec. She was super cool and taught us simple terms and looks of pastry making. We learned the lamination of bread and what it is supposed to look like. The lamination when talking about pastries is the honeycomb look you should see. If you cut a croissant in half, it should have a uniform honeycomb look on both pieces. After all that learning, we worked up an appetite. The best part of it all besides meeting incredible people, tasting time! We got to sample our delicious Focaccia Bread we made! YYAAAYY! We also got to sample some amazing pastries. We tried different croissant flavors like plan, lemon custard filled, jam filled, chocolate filled, and cream cheese filled. All were very tasty. The croissant layers themselves were light and flaky. They are working on their new line of pastries that are offered to a few local restaurants.

Kudos and much respect to Ryan and his team! Our day in the bakery was time well spent and everyone made us feel at home. You can’t go wrong with any type of bread from Sixteen Bricks. If you haven’t tried them, be sure you do. You are totally missing out! If you have, well keep continuing to eat their bread. No one is counting your calories, plus who doesn’t love carbs? We sure do! Give them a try, you will be just as impressed as we are!

 

Cheers to 20 Years!!

Happy 20th Anniversary Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse – Cincinnati!! WOW, can you believe it has been 20 years since Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse – Cincinnati opened its doors?! Considering most restaurants do not survive their first year in business, this is an amazing accomplishment! Hats off to the Jeff Ruby Culinary Entertainment group for 20 years of awesome food and dining. Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse is upscale dining at its finest. Located in Downtown Cincinnati directly across from the Aronoff Center for the Arts and in the heart of the city’s Backstage Entertainment District, Ruby’s is the place to go for an elegant night out on the town. The restaurant is modeled after the 1940’s-era French Art Deco Steakhouses of New York City. The artwork, lighting and rich textures create a vibrancy that will make sure you feel as though you’ve been treated to not just dinner, but a show. Tiff Squared could not agree more. Mr. Ruby loves huge chandeliers, so you will see quite a few in the dining area. They are so vibrant and dramatic and lend a nice touch to the restaurant’s décor. We had an amazing experience! From the truffle butter and bread to the dessert and everything in between, we enjoyed one of the best dining experiences the city has to offer. This location is the first of five Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse concepts. The other locations are Louisville, Nashville, Columbus, and Lexington.

The concept of Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouses came many years ago during an era of entrepreneurs opening steakhouses. The thing about everyone else was they named their steakhouses after athletes or other famous people. Mr. Ruby liked the idea of opening a steakhouse but wanted to name it after himself. This is when Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse was born. Mr. Ruby opened the doors to a new restaurant, but he did not want just a plain jane steakhouse. He wanted one that delivers award-winning steaks, seafood and service. He also wanted to combine those three staples with live nightly entertainment with great attention to detail. With his dream and determination being the driving force and his team’s hard work delivering on execution, he did just that. Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse has become a favorite of celebrities, athletes, politicians, and Cincinnatians looking for a good time and a good meal. Also, we cannot forget to mention that Mr. Ruby is a big cigar guy. The outdoor area is called the “Cigar Patio” and he even has cigars made just for the restaurant with his name printed on them. Yes, if you are a cigar person you can purchase these cigars.

From then to now (1999-2019), Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse has been delivering phenomenal food, service and a great night out on the town. They live up to their mission and Tiff Squared could not have been more excited and prouder to be a part of this great accomplishment. When we were asked to come in and do a behind the scenes, we were super elated. Trust us, they did not have to ask twice! Haha 😊 From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by friendly, smiling staff. We were then given a glass of champagne to toast. We received a tour of the restaurant and even got to say hello to the executive chef and his staff. We ended with the best part – dinner and dessert. We can truly say, our dining experience was one for the books!

Tiff Squared

Their menu certainly helps as well! Anyone can open a steakhouse, but they must deliver on the food and most importantly the steak. Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse has an amazing culinary team. Even the pastry chef is the bomb.com! Although this is a steakhouse, they have something for everyone. What makes them unique compared to other steakhouses is they offer sushi, bar bites and fresh seafood.

Now, let’s dive into the menu!

We started with some yummy bread and butter. I mean who doesn’t love carbs?! The kicker here is half of the butter was truffle butter. This butter was so good and was the perfect touch to the sourdough bread. Next, we had the Wagyu Meatball served with creamy polenta and tomato gravy. Talk about one big ball of beefy goodness! It was flavorful and tender. The polenta was the cherry on top. Truthfully, at this point Tiff Squared was tipping the scale of being stuffed. Hehe! However, we had not even laid our eyes on dinner. It was waaayyy to early for our little bellies to be halfway happy. C’mon, I mean it’s a steakhouse and of course we had to order steak. We could not come to a steakhouse and not order what they are known for. MY OH MY, dinner is now served! The waiter comes to our table with two plates of 12 oz. steak with Mac & Cheese and Creamed Spinach for sides. Tiff Squared now has the **eyes bucked** emoji face! We look at each other and wonder who is going to eat all this food. With our happy half full bellies and a smile, we dig in. I ordered the Steak Collinsworth and Tiff D. ordered the Barrel-Cut Filet. Both steaks were amazing, cooked well, seasoned well, and tender. The sides were amazing and the best I, Tiff B, have had from a steakhouse. That Mac & Cheese was DEEEELIICIOUS! The Creamed Spinach was creamy and flavorful. The chefs certainly deserve a hand clap for this meal! Needless to say we are now beyond stuffed, but guess what??? We now have dessert!

DESSERT?!

Just when we thought we couldn’t eat anymore; it was now time for dessert. Not one but THREE! I, Tiff B, was super excited because I am the sweets eater between myself and Tiff D. Tiff D. was super thankful for the desserts but looked at me like what have you done. Three wasn’t planned but I could not decide on one, so our awesome waiter, Patrick, brought us three. Yep, you read that correctly, UNO (1), DOS (2), TRES (3)! Sorry Tiff D., however, I’m sure her belly appreciated it 😊 We had the Banana Pudding Ice Cream Torte, the Warm Brown Butter Spice Cake, and the Chocolate Torte. All three were truly amazing and lent a different taste profile. Having a crazy sweet tooth, I truly appreciated this dessert tray! Also, if you get to the end of the meal and are hesitant on ordering dessert, do not be! The pastry chef is one heck of a chef and puts out amazing desserts!

WHEW!! I got full just typing all of this! Lol! All jokes aside, Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse truly offered us an amazing dining experience with delicious food. We are so thankful and appreciative to have been apart of them celebrating 20 years! Again, thank you Jeff Ruby’s and Cheers to 20 Years!

A “SOCIAL”ly Minded Mission

Findlay Market, which is part of Cincinnati’s growing food scene, is the home of many established and up and coming restaurants. Findlay Market is a farmers’ market. In recent years, it has expanded its doors by allowing young chefs to perfect their craft. This is a way to give young entrepreneurs a chance to get their products out to market in an affordable manner. Not only does Finlay Market help the “at-home baker/chef”, it also lends a helping hand to culinary students through their Findlay Market Culinary Program. Recently, Findlay Market launched a culinary project called Social OTR. When we heard about their opening, we were eager to find out more. We sat down with the previous Hospitality Manager, Cat Amaro, to take a behind the scenes look into Social OTR.

So how did the concept of Social come to be? We are glad you asked! 😊 Social was the final product of a pilot program idea of General Manager, Anthony Berlin. The idea of Social was to be a non-profit restaurant operated by Findlay Market in partnership with City Link, that strives to provide guest with a one of a kind dining experience with a socially minded mission. Berlin wanted Social to serve as a learning melting pot for up and coming chefs. This idea created an internship site for students in the Findlay Culinary Training program. In the program, students work alongside professional staff to prepare them for a career in the culinary industry. They then started raising money for the program which then made the idea a reality.

The concept of Social is to be able to provide each student a real-life experience of what to expect in the restaurant industry, but still give the comfort of a learning playground. The curriculum is based on what local restaurants are looking for. The menu is based on choosing skills for students to practice. In the Culinary program, the students learn culinary skills and soft skills (i.e. how to prepare for interviews, the business side, etc.). Considering this is a restaurant, students also get to come in and learn and prep for dinner and brunch just as they would in the industry.

 

The fun and cool thing about dining at Social is, it looks and feels like a normal running establishment. As a guest if you do not know the story, you would not know Social was a concept of a “mock” restaurant experience for the chefs. You do not realize the chefs are in training. From the service to the food everything runs smoothly. After talking to Cat and being shown around, we were able to try some delicious dishes that we want to share.

DUCK FAT FINGERLINGS – served with Rosemary aioli. If you are looking for a sharable snack that is familiar, these are the fries for you. The duck fat lends a flavor booster and the aioli adds the cherry on top.

HEIRLOOM TOMATO SALAD – grilled scallion, quark, blueberry panko, roasted pink peppercorn. This salad was bright and flavorful. The fresh tomatoes paired with the panko crusted quark and the greens, was a delightful combination.

CRAWFISH HANDPIES – served with spicy remoulade. I have heard of crawfish handpies before but had never had them. I was delighted to be able to try these babies. They were good and added a nice seafood addition to the menu. There is also plenty to share. This dish comes with two BIG hand pies.

SHORT RIB RAVIOLO – manchego. Yum, yum, yum! There is nothing like a homemade pasta dish. You can never go wrong with a classic like ravioli. We enjoyed this dish and appreciated the love that went into making these stuffed little shells.

CHICKEN ROULADE – bulgogi, bok choy, bamboo rice, micro cilantro. This is considered one of their large plates. If you order a few small plates, the large plates are big enough to share. This chicken dish was flavorful, and we enjoyed every bite. It’s a nice spin to plain boring chicken.

Now we can’t try dinner and not have dessert! The desserts are a nice end to your dinner. Let’s look at what desserts we had the pleasure of trying.

COOKIE JAR – variety of homemade cookies. This dessert was fun and nostalgic. The cookies came out in a T-Rex Cookie jar. It remined me of going to grandmas and grandma having the cookie jar filled with my favorite cookies. The two flavors of cookies were Chocolate Chip and Snickerdoodle.

PANNA COTTA – served with raspberry sauce and crumble. Like most panna cotta, this was light, airy and flavorful. The sauce is a nice addition and the crumble adds a nice crunch. This was perfect for the summer.

CHOCOLATE COOKIES – These homemade cookies are a chocolate lover’s dream. They are made with lots of chocolate and some crunchy mix-ins. They are also soft and chewy.

We asked Cat what the top selling dishes are as well as is their menu seasonal. Her response was the top sellers are $1 Oysters (served all day everyday in the Alley at Social), Short Rib Ravoli and the Cookie Jar. If you love seasonal changing menus, you are in luck. Social’s menu changes with the season to provide the freshest in season ingredients in a flavorful dish. They want you to feel like you are getting a home cooked meal made with love.

Behind the Scenes with Milk Jar Café

The fun thing about Cincinnati’s food scene is that it is forever growing. Every time you turn a corner something new and trendy is popping up, and I love this. I also love seeing new food culture brought to the Queen City as well. Within the last few years, Bubble Tea and Rolled Ice Cream have become a new favorite of many people in many different cities. Like other cities, Cincinnati was put onto this growing trend by the owners of Milk Jar Café, Jimmy Lin and Kevin Chen. What is Milk Jar Café you ask? Milk Jar is a café that serves the most recent popular desserts that include, Thai Ice Cream (rolled), a Cereal Bar, and Bubble Tea.

THAI ICE CREAM: What’s up with Rolled Ice Cream? With Rolled Ice Cream it’s all about the show. The process takes about two minutes. It starts with a cream base and your choice of mix-ins. It all gets combined on a cold surface set to a temperature of -18 Celsius. Then its chopped and mixed before it hardens. After that, it is smoothed out and rolled. After the process is over, the customer gets to choose unlimited toppings to place onto their ice cream.

 

BUBBLE TEA: Bubble Tea has been a popular Asian drink that has been around the USA for the past decades. The evolution of bubbles comes from the traditional Black Ceylon Tea combined with milk and bubble (Tapioca or Boba as it is commonly called). Customers can choose their base tea and their toppings. Boba adds texture to tea. Fruit Tea is also an option here at Milk Jar. Customers can choose to blend their tea with the fruit they prefer. They newest trend in the milk tea industry is Milk Cap and it is delicious. I was able to try their homemade Milk Cap Tea. Milk Cap tea is a tea that is topped off with soft, salted, creamy cheese foam. This tradition is big in Asia and very trendy. The idea here is to be perceived that you are drinking cheesecake on top of tea. The foam tastes just like cheesecake.

CEREAL BAR: Cereal Bar is a new trend that is growing in California and New York. Jimmy and Kevin thought, “hmm, its pretty simple why not add it to our café as well”. The process is simply allowing customers to choose their favorite cereal from a list, choose their dressing or drizzle, choose their toppings and then finally fresh milk will be provided to them.

Let’s take a pause and discuss how Milk Jar came to be:

Milk Jar Café opened in Hyde Park on September 1, 2018. Childhood friends Jimmy and Kevin wanted to combine three things: Rolled Ice Cream, Bubble Tea, and Cereal. Both friends are of Asian descent and culture. Like many other entrepreneurs who are proud of their culture, Jimmy had the idea to combine western treats of Asia with eastern treats of Asia. Ice cream comes from western Asia while Boba Tea is more from the eastern part of Asia. Jimmy then brought Kevin in on the idea and Milk Jar Café was born!

Uniqueness is a key factor at the forefront of opening any new food/drink location. What is cool and unique about Milk Jar is everything is fresh, and they do not use powders like most bubble tea companies. The teas are fresh and imported from Asia. The way they make their Boba Tea is different from American tea shops. If fruit is used, its fresh pressed fruit mixed with tea. They strive to bring more Asian culture into what they are doing. Fresh tea leaves, fresh fruit, everything is FRESH! What is also unique is the combination of Rolled Ice cream and Tea. It brings the business of ice cream and tea together. Most shops are just one or the other.

Rolled Ice Cream and Bubble Tea?! Yes, Please!

In China the culture is to drink cold dessert tea while hot tea is more for social and religious purposes. The most common teas are Jasmine and Oolong. In China, these are the teas that they drink when friends and family are over. In Japan the most common tea is Matcha Tea. They offer tea in a fast-casual style environment. Their menu is filled with fun tea combinations as well as different ice cream combinations. I asked them what the top sellers of tea and ice cream are, and they quickly raved about Jasmine Tea and the Cookie Monster Ice Cream.

I enjoy a good trend especially when it comes to food. However, with any trend you either love it or hate it. I can say I have become a big fan of the Bubble Tea trend. I love a good tea and then adding Boba to it for texture. I also enjoy a different but familiar ice cream flavor. While doing the behind the scenes, I was able to try three of Milk Jar’s desserts.

The ice cream flavor I tried was the Banana Pudding. It was their vanilla milk-based liquid mixed with Nilla Wafers and Bananas. It literally tasted how it sounds. It was delicious! I got the fruitiness from the bananas while the creaminess came from the ice cream itself. Then add the crunch of the Nilla Wafers and boy was it a party in my mouth! This was definitely a good choice.

Now I couldn’t come to a Tea spot and not try their most trendy tea. I tried the Watermelon Jasmine Tea with Milk Cap, the Dirty Milk Boba, and the Thai Milk Tea with Boba. Dirty Milk Tea is Caramel or Brown Sugar milk with flavored custard pudding. Thai Milk Tea is simply Thai Tea with a splash of Half and Half poured on top. I must say all were amazing and brought something different to my taste buds. I enjoyed everything I tried and can say Milk Jar is my go-to spot when I what a Thai Milk Tea.

I truly enjoyed my experience at Milk Jar. They will provide you with excellent service, affordable tea and ice cream, and friendly smiles. Trying anything on the menu will be a real delight. We hope to see you there and don’t forget your delicious bubble tea or ice cream on the way out.
