Places To See In The DMV!

Are you looking for a quick weekend trip with a variety of great things to see, reasonable prices, and amazing history? Well, the DMV is perfect for you! I’ve always been a fan of the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area, but never dedicated a weekend to exploring the top areas… until now! I was so impressed with how much we experienced in such a short amount of time that I felt it necessary to share it with you all! Although there is much more, here are a few “Must Do” options.

1.The National Harbor            The harbor is such a CUTE area! It’s great for time with friends, family fun, date nights,
or just peaceful time alone! What I loved most was:

The Food: While at the Harbor, I was informed that Maryland is known for their crab cakes. What better place to be the judge of this than the well known Crab Cake Cafe . Now before I get into my assessment of this cake, I must tell you, I have never been a fan of them. I was extremely leery to eat here, but YOLO, right?! We ordered the Firecracker Crab Cake sandwich, which I must say was….. wait for it…. DELICIOUS! I could not believe it! Their seasoning was ridiculously good. This is what my lack of seafood life has been missing! Have I convinced you to eat here yet? Yes? GREAT! If not, no worries. There is a variety of authentic restaurants that are sure to please all preferences.

The Activities: From shopping, to playing in the sand as if you’re on the beach, to watching movies on the large, outdoor projector, to special events, etc., your options are pretty limitless here. It is directly on the water, which is beautiful and serene if you just want time to relax. You can also take a picture with well known celebrities that look so real! If you’re feeling daring, take a ride on the super high ferris wheel, which would
make for a memorable experience and great pics! There is also an MGM a very short distance from the harbor if you’d like more fun! Now… CAUTION… As you can see,  there is a large sea creature that rears its ugly “hand” every now and then. It almost got me. Be careful! ;)

2. The Museums 

Washington D.C. has an AMAZING selection of Smithsonian museums. They honor many cultures, history & arts. As displayed in the picture above, there are 18 to choose from- including the National Zoo. Given the amount of praise the African American Museum has received, I was ecstatic for this to be the choice for the weekend.  The best words I can use to describe this experience are… amazing. impactful. emotional. and extremely well done. There are multiple floors to take you through the good, the bad, and the ugly involving African Americans. I was so impressed with the amount of detail put into every nook and cranny. Although I was informed of how perfect it was, my descriptive words above simply cannot express the feelings involved when walking through and reliving history. I was in awe in a beautiful way. Words of advice should you choose to visit.. get your tickets in advance, get there early, and take your time. A few hours are just not enough! Also, be sure to save enough time to stop at the food court. It is yummy!

3. Monuments/Memorials
Throughout the D.C. area, there are a large number of monuments in the heart of the city. If history is of interest to you, take some time to view some, if not all of them. These monuments/memorials include, but are not limited to the Washington Monument (pictured), Lincoln Memorial, Abraham Lincoln, Peace Monument, Martin Luther King National Monument (pictured), and World War II Memorial. History is so well appreciated and celebrated here, which I love!

4. Restaurant of Choice

I had the pleasure of dining at Busboys and Poets and let me tell you, it was such a cool experience! This is the first time I’ve been to a restaurant that contains a full library, art, great food, and live music in one. There was a wait for our table, but I  was so entranced by the books that I hardly noticed! Talk about an original concept! The food was also very good, especially the potatoes that came with my Eggs Benedict. YUUUMMMYYY! There are a few locations in the area, but this was the first; located on 14th street. There are also tons of other fun things in this area to occupy your time.

We hope this post helps narrow down your options of things to do with limited time. Now it’s time to ride the Metrorail (which is an easy, clean, and inexpensive way to get around) to the airport and prepare for our next destination. We can’t wait to go back to the DMV and add even more great options to the list!!
